Today I am here to talk about something that sadly affects many women and in some cases men as well.Below is the statistics I got from the Susan G. Komen foundation on the cases of breast cancer in the USA.
Women
In 2015, it is estimated that among U.S. women there will be
231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer (This includes new cases of primary breast cancer among survivors, but not recurrence of original breast cancer among survivors.)
60,290 new cases of in situ breast cancer (This includes ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS). Of those, about 83 percent will be DCIS. DCIS is a non-invasive breast cancer and LCIS is a condition that increases the risk of invasive breast cancer.
40,290 breast cancer deaths
Men
Breast cancer in men is rare, but it does happen. In 2015, it is estimated that among men in the U.S. there will be [5]:
2,350 new cases of (This includes new cases of primary breast cancer among survivors, but not recurrence of original breast cancer among survivors.)
440 breast cancer deaths
Rates of breast cancer incidence (new cases) and mortality (death) are much lower among men than among women [41]. For example, in 2011 (most recent data available)
Sadly these numbers do not include the lives affected by the loved ones of those diagnosed with this terrible disease.Cancer in any form is horrible and a treatment needs to be found for all.Next month is Breast Cancer Awareness month where we shed the light on this cancer and try to raise money to help fund the research to abolish this cancer.All year long we should look to raise money to get rid of cancer but for the month of October let us shed a huge light on this and work to gather the funds needed to finally stomp out cancer.
